Badminton NT is proud to support Canadian Women & Sport’s national campaign, Get Girl Coached, which calls on all of us, coaches, parents, organizations, and sport leaders, to reimagine sport environments where girls feel they belong, can lead, and thrive.
Across Canada, nearly 1 in 2 girls drop out of sport by age 17. That’s a huge missed opportunity, not just for their personal development, but for our communities as a whole. Girls who stay engaged in sport report higher confidence, better mental wellness, and stronger leadership skills.
So, what can we do?
We can start by listening to girls. Understanding their needs. And creating sport programs designed for them, not asking them to adapt to systems that weren’t built with them in mind.
Whether it’s better access to court times, female mentorship, or simply being heard and seen, small changes can lead to powerful impact. Through the Get Girl Coached initiative, we’re committed to:
- Coaching for her – Creating safe and inclusive environments with feedback from girls
- Designing for her – Building programs that meet her needs and aspirations
- Investing in her – Offering opportunities, resources, and role models to keep girls in the game
We invite the badminton community across the Northwest Territories, athletes, coaches, volunteers, and parents, to visit keepgirlsplaying.ca and access tools to help ensure every girl has a place on the court and beyond.
Let’s lead by example. Let’s keep girls playing.
