Safe Sport is more than preventing harm. It is about building a culture of respect, integrity, fairness, and belonging.
What Safe Sport Means
Safe Sport is everyone’s responsibility. It means creating environments where:
- Everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
- Athletes can learn, compete, and grow without fear of abuse, harassment, discrimination, bullying, or neglect.
- Coaches, officials, volunteers, and parents model positive behaviour.
- Concerns are taken seriously and addressed fairly.
- Badminton remains fun, welcoming, and accessible for everyone.
Our Commitment
Badminton NWT is committed to:
- Providing safe and inclusive programs throughout the Northwest Territories.
- Following the Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport (UCCMS).
- Screening coaches, officials, volunteers, and Board members where appropriate.
- Providing Safe Sport education and training.
- Supporting respectful communication and positive sport experiences.
- Responding to concerns in a fair, timely, and confidential manner.
- Continuously improving our policies and practices.
Reporting a Concern
If you experience or witness behaviour that makes you uncomfortable or unsafe, we encourage you to speak up. Reports are treated seriously, respectfully, and confidentially whenever possible.
Concerns may include:
- Bullying
- Harassment
- Discrimination
- Abuse
- Neglect
- Inappropriate behaviour
- Retaliation
- Breaches of the Code of Conduct

What Happens After a Report?
Every report is reviewed in accordance with the Badminton NWT Sport Integrity Policy Suite.
Depending on the situation, concerns may be:
- Resolved through education or informal resolution.
- Reviewed by an Independent Third Party.
- Investigated through a formal process.
- Referred to external authorities when required.
Our goal is to ensure every concern is handled fairly, respectfully, and with procedural fairness.
