On Canada Day, we take a moment to reflect on what it means to live, play, and grow together in the North. At Badminton NWT, we celebrate not only our sport, but the spirit of community, belonging, and respect that comes with it.
We offer our heartfelt thanks to the Dene, Métis, and Inuvialuit peoples whose traditional territories we are privileged to play on. These lands hold stories, strength, and traditions that have shaped life in the North for generations. Every time we step onto a court, whether in a school gym or a community center, we do so on land that has long supported movement, gathering, and wellness.
Badminton brings people together, youth, Elders, families, and friends, in a way that is fun, inclusive, and active. It’s not just about the game, but about building confidence, connection, and joy through shared experiences.
Today, we recognize the land we move on, the people we move with, and the values that guide us toward a more respectful and inclusive future.
May we all keep moving forward, together.
