Honouring Red Dress Day – National MMIWG2S Awareness Day

May 5

On May 5, Badminton NT joins communities across the Northwest Territories and Canada in recognizing National MMIWG2S Awareness Day, also known as Red Dress Day.

This day honours the lives and memories of thousands of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, two-spirit, and gender-diverse people.
It calls us to reflect, to listen, and to act against the ongoing violence that impacts Indigenous communities.

We are reminded of Call to Action 41 of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada, which called for a national inquiry into these tragedies — a call that remains as urgent and important as ever.

At Badminton NT, we are committed to building spaces of safety, respect, and belonging both on and off the court.
Today, we wear red and stand in solidarity with Indigenous communities across the North and across Canada.
